The following is a partial list of the volumes consulted in the preparation of this book. In addition, of course, is that vast reservoir of material contained in the daily newspapers, weekly and monthly magazines, reports and hearings of various committees of the House and Senate, and numerous other official documents of the government. Many of these are referred to in the footnotes. Also, several other works were appearing serially in magazines and newspapers when this volume was written. They were "Winston Churchill's Memoirs" (Vol. I) , which ran serially in the New York Times; Robert S. Sherwood's "Secret Papers of Harry L. Hopkins" which ran serially in Collier's Magazine and Harold L. Ickes' "My Twelve Years with F.D.R." which ran serially in the the Saturday Evening Post.
